February 4th every year I make it my duty to highlight another milestone, on this day of 2009 I took my watery baptism along with my partner in crime Makeda J. Stobbs.
It wasn't an easy decision to accept "The Man in the Sky" at the tender age of 15, for me it took an Encounter.
The messages of hope, salvation, repentance and the cross were not foreign to me but they surely flew over my head, until I had an encounter with the God I heard about all my life. I believe having face to face contact with the Holy Spirit was my saving grace. I will never forget that night of prayer meeting that changed my life forever.
Now let's get to it,
Does Christianity work?
Does having a relationship with Jesus Christ profit you anything?
Does believing in a God that died for all sins positively impact the life of one who believes?
Well, let's put aside all religious platitudes and be real. Being a Christian meaning: serving Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour, going to church, doing medical missions, evangelism and doing all the other "works of the Lord" has taught me many things and some I will highlight.
Honesty
Emotional Intelligence
Public Speaking
Singing
Event Planning
Counselling
Generosity
......let's leave it there just to name a few.
This journey and lifestyle of being "A child of God" has empowered me to reach heights, places, attitudes, people and opportunities that the home, school or community centers could NOT provide and that's in total respect to those impactful and nation building institutions.
So the answer is YES, unapologetically, unregrettably and appreciatively.
Nevertheless, this lifestyle more intimately known as a relationship with God has clauses called: Long Suffering, Pain, Persecution, Wickedness in High Places and MUCH Sacrifice.
I have been at tremendous lows that made me ask the questions:
Is God real?
Why is God allowing me to go through all this?
God, why me?
How can You be God and just sit there and watch me endure all this?
Those were some of the realest and hardest questions I have ever asked while on the journey. Yes, the glamour of it all stops sparkling sometimes and the rubber does meet the road and can throw you off course. Subsequently, teaching you to learn to be the BEST from the WORST of situations.
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
My personal mantra and a scripture that keeps me day in and out. A life submitted to Christ requires selfless sacrifice to be victorious and successful but it also requires FAITH in TREACHEROUS times and HOPE for BETTER that WILL come.
So if you're on this great roller coaster of a journey like me, PRESS ON! If you have been contemplating or resisting the call JOIN US! A purposeful life in Christ will always be more joyous and ultimately fulfilling(or self actualizing) than the one you're living now.
Think about what you are stalling by resisting/putting off your Godly PURPOSE:
Dead bodies to be resurrected.
Sick bodies to be healed.
Suicidal minds to be restored.
Mentally depressed to be counseled and rehabilitated.
NATIONS are waiting, for the positive impact of all your gifts, talents and God given abilities.
10 Years of purposeful Christianity is definitely a milestone to be celebrated, Yes a relationship with #JesusChrist works.
